HVAC maintenance contract is smart bet

Some people think of a maintenance contract as a gamble. Do they play it safe and buy the contract or do they bet the system won’t ever break down?

That’s only part of the gamble, however.

The maintenance contract means a technician regularly checks your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. The tech’s job is to make sure the HVAC is working efficiently – and to detect any frayed belts or bad connections that could lead to a breakdown later. It’s the old example of an ounce of prevention saving many dollars worth of cure.

Many contracts also offer discounts on parts and put you at the top of the list for repairs.

Meanwhile the gambler’s HVAC is losing efficiency and getting closer to a breakdown. (Most likely to happen at night or on a long weekend, which will really upset the family.).

Many benefits

A maintenance contract pays off again and again:

• When a system works efficiently, its life is extended and your electricity bills don’t skyrocket.

• Your indoor air is cleaner because the filter is cleaned or replaced.

• The maintenance contract also includes a check for major safety issues. Is the refrigerant leaking? Is there a problem with the heat exchanger on the furnace?

• Manufacturers are more likely to quickly supply free replacement parts if a professional technician has been maintaining your system. That’s because they know a pro has been checking filters, coils, and all the myriad components in a modern HVAC.

• The maintenance contract removes all the worries involved in heating, ventilating and cooling your home or business.

Gamble on something else if you want, but don’t bet against your house.
