Improve HVAC efficiency, cut taxes

You can cash in tax credits by improving the energy efficiency of your home or business.

The average credit last year was $882, the Internal Revenue Service said.

Leading the list for tax credits: home insulation, with 669,440 home-owners reporting they improved insulation, a vital step to weather-proofing and energy efficiency. The credits can go as high as $2,000.

Next up: heat pumps (267,780 units), central air-conditioning (488,050), and heat-pump water heaters (104,180), according to IRS figures quoted in https://www.achrnews.com/, which covers the air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration industries.

More possibilities

The federal tax credits can go as high as $2,000.

In addition, the State of New York State also offers incentives for people who buy heat pumps or otherwise make their homes more energy-efficient as part of the electrification movement.
