Summer is no picnic for HVAC rooftop units
RTUs, as they’re called, labor in the heat with little protection from the sun and pollutants that can force them to work harder to keep you cool in your shop or restaurant.
If you think you’re hot on the sidewalk outside, just imagine how much warmer it is on the roof. That warm air makes pollutants rise – pollutants in New York City?! – and they damage the unit’s efficiency, too.
A mid-summer maintenance check can avert a breakdown before it happens. The technician will replace dirty air filters, make sure the airflow is at optimum strength, and check for components that need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
Ignore maintenance and eventually you will be hot under the collar.
