The AC fan stopped spinning

Maybe your AC is chugging along, but it’s not kicking out any cool air.

You notice the fan on the outside unit isn’t moving. You can hear a hum coming from the unit but the blades are not turning.

What’s wrong?

There are several possible causes, but first, check to make sure the air filter isn’t clogged. A dirty filter can bring an AC system to a halt.

Major fixes

If the filter is clean, then it’s time to check:

•the fan belt for breaks

•electrical issues

•a malfunctioning motor

•capacitor or contactor problems.
