Why electricity demand is growing
All the more reason to make your home and business more energy-efficient, whether that means adding insulation or upgrading your HVAC system.
Electricity consumption is expected to grow about 4 percent per year through 2027, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). This is its fastest rate in recent years.
The United States alone will add the equivalent of California’s energy demands to its load in the next three years, the agency said.
“The surge is primarily driven by robust growing use of electricity for industrial production, increased demand for air conditioning, accelerating electrification, led by the transport sector, and the rapid expansion of data centers,” the report said. (Organizations use data centers to house critical applications and data.)
The International Energy Agency (IEA) works with governments and industry to shape a secure and sustainable energy future for all.
